Why did you write that Russ?

They clearly won’t be shitting themselves at the prospect of us qualifying for the Champions League.

I bet G&S are shitting themselves at the prospect of us qualifying for the CL.

The cunts moaned about travel expenses to Everton for fuck sake.

I hope and pray that if the unbelievable happens and we finish top 4, someone with serious dough snaps us up.

Suppose we do manage it and finish 4th.
What does that mean?
Do we have to do the qualifying rounds to get into the groups phase? It’s just we haven’t been very good at that have we. Maybe we meet that friging Astra team again...

DAvey

Im sure i read or heard last week he was a CM coming through the academy.....so might be some legs in that

And on LB, i think we go for a first choice LB and then sell Arthur....his stock is high after this season and Cresswell can cover LCB in a back 5. Johnson stays as he is, with hopefully more starts in the EL

Re: Will we qualify for the Champions League?
Not least because we would attract a different quality of player (even back-up players) IF we qualify for a European tournament. But that's a big IF.

I'm more concerned with the current team staying completely focused on each next match. And I think that will be Moyes' approach. He has weaknesses, as we know, but he is an arch-pragmatist.

Re: Will we qualify for the Champions League?
Back to the point about the summer, though...

I think it's always wise to cutr your cloth accordingly. There really is little point speculating on exactly what is needed, squad-wise, in the summer until we know exactly where we finished and exactly which tournaments we will be playing in next term.

We haven't qualified for anything, except another season in the Premier League, yet. If we have a terrible next five games (which is actually possible, given our fixtures), that might be all we have come May.

Hence, we take it one game at a time. When it gets to mid-May, we can start to worry about how will build the squad - and hopefully be quick into filling the required roles. As Stewie says, our biggest needs seem to be striker and some back-up quality in central midfield (as back-ups to Rice and Soucek).

But we won't know how much money we have to spend, how many positions (exactly) need filling etc until we know where we finished and what tournaments will be in next season.

I also feel Jonhson could play central midfield. Both our current two are off similar build. Johnson comes away with the ball in similar way to Rice,he drives down the flank and could do the same in mifield I'm sure.

Re: Will we qualify for the Champions League?
From memory, it wasn't just back injuries he suffered from as he grew - it was hamstring and groin problems, too.

Also, for me 1 decent season doesn't mean much.

Re: Will we qualify for the Champions League?
This was written about Gerrard in early 2002, just after he was ruled out of the remainder of the season (and the Word Cup)...

"He came through the Liverpool youth ranks alongside Owen, and the striker confirmed he has been his major supplier of chances at club level.

The pair have also shared injury problems, with many of Gerrard's recent injuries attributed to his rapid growth.

He has developed from someone who was smaller than Owen at schoolboy level to a player who now stands at over six foot.

Gerrard has been constantly troubled by back problems, and only played one game in Euro 2000 because of injury.

He has flown to France throughout his career to receive specialist treatment, and even had wisdom teeth removed on medical advice to help ease his injury nightmare."

Leicester want Toney by all accounts... not saying we shouldn't go for him. IMO would be perfect for us.

Different types of forwards though, Kenzo.

Re: Will we qualify for the Champions League?
Why can't he ? he has a far better scoring record than Ollie Watkins and he hasn't turned out too bad.

Yeah, there is something in that, I guess.

Johnson can play LB or RB... he will be a significant squad player going forward.

Block 1:45 Mon Feb 22
Re: Will we qualify for the Champions League?
That just confirms my point, Bred.

As he is still young, he's likely to get these sort of injuries again. So to rely on him if Cresswell isn't fit for whatever reason is a risk.

Re: Will we qualify for the Champions League?
It's not uncommon for younger players get hamstring injuries - they're often caused by the strain placed on your body while it is still growing and developing muscle mass.

Steven Gerrard suffered from them early in his career, because he was still growing in height (he had a late growth spurt) and Gerard Houllier even tried to send him off to a French doctor who wanted to pull his wisdom teeth out. It was all a bit juju.

Don't forget, often these kids are, well, kids. Developing the strength and muscle mass (while not gaining un-necessary weight) needed to play top-flight football in Europe is hard on your body - especially when your body is still growing.

Re: Will we qualify for the Champions League?
He reminds me of Cameron Jerome, decent in the lower leagues but can't make the step up.

Re: Will we qualify for the Champions League?
I would rather plump for Toney at Brentford than the fella in Spain we bid for.
